Meet Us

Velocitas Greyhounds is a small preservation breeding program located near St. Louis, Missouri. Our Greyhounds are first and foremost beloved members of our family. They share our home, travel with us, and participate in conformation, lure coursing, and other activities that showcase the breed’s beauty, athleticism, and temperament.

Although we have owned dogs throughout our lives, we welcomed our first Greyhound as a “pandemic puppy.” Her breeder knew that the Purina Farms Event Center was just down the road from us and encouraged us to try showing her. As lifelong dog lovers, we quickly discovered how much we enjoyed spending the day surrounded by dogs of every breed and getting to know others who shared that enthusiasm. Some early success—including a win at the GCA National Specialty during only our fourth weekend of showing—quickly had us hooked. From there, we began exploring other activities with our Greyhounds, including lure coursing, Fast CAT, and LGRA racing.

Our first breeding priority is temperament. Whether a Greyhound becomes a show champion, a performance competitor, or simply a cherished companion, everyone wants a well-mannered, confident, and easygoing member of the family. We also breed for sound conformation and athletic ability, preserving the qualities that have defined the Greyhound for centuries.

We undertake extensive health testing before every breeding, including testing beyond the recommendations of the Greyhound Club of America. Results are made publicly available whenever possible through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. Each breeding is planned with careful consideration of health, temperament, structure, athleticism, pedigree, and genetic diversity.

Although Velocitas is a relatively young breeding program, our first litter has already produced three AKC champions, including a Grand Champion and a Dual Champion. We are proud of their accomplishments, but even more proud that every puppy is a loved and valued member of their family.

We carefully match each puppy with a home suited to its temperament and the family’s goals. Our responsibility does not end when a puppy leaves our home; we remain available as a resource throughout the dog’s life.
